Whetstone sits on the main road between Finchley and Barnet, it offers a variety of property sizes and styles, excellent shopping facilities along the High Road, and a tube station on the Northern Line.
Legend has it that the name Whetstone comes from the time of Wars of the Roses in the 15th Century. As it is here soldiers made camp on their way to fight at the Battle of Barnet, and used the ‘whet-stone’ to sharpen their weapons. Remnants of the stone can be seen on the High Road outside the Griffin. (However this stone is more likely to be what’s left of a mounting block as the Griffin was a well known coaching inn). While Totteridge dates back to the 13th Century when the area was known ar Tataridge.
