    1964

    Martyn Gerrard opened his first office. It was at 1392 High Road, Whetstone.

    The first properties that Martyn Gerrard marketed in 1964 were an “ultra-modern” apartment in Barnet for £3,250 and a three bedroom house in Whetstone for £4,650. His first sale was a three bedroom house on Byng Road, Barnet for £4,950.

    The average London property price at the time was £3,835. Also in 1964 - Beetlemania hit America, Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment, the classic musical, Mary Poppins, was released and BBC 2 was launched.

    Our second office was opened at 773 High Road, North Finchley.

    The average London property price in 1968 is £4,418. Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated; the musical Hair opened on Broadway; Dad's Army and Hawaii Five-O are broadcast for the first time; and the Boeing 747 makes its first commercial flight.

    The average London property price is £5,252. The Greater London Council announces plans for the Thames Barrier; Apollo 13 hits trouble; The Goodies debuts on BBC Two; The Prince of Wales joined the Royal Navy; and Martin Peters became the first £200,000 footballer with his transfer from West Ham to Tottenham Hotspur.

    The average London property price is £11,715. Margaret Thatcher defeats Edward Heath for the leadership of the Conservative Party; Monty Python and the Holy Grail is released in the UK and Jaws is released in the US; Bill Gates and Paul Allen found Microsoft.

    The Crouch End office is opened at 45 The Broadway.

    The average London property price is £25,451. The Rubik's Cube makes its debut; Pac-Man is released in Japan; Lech Walesa leads the first of many strikes at the Gdańsk Shipyard in Poland; John Lennon is murdered.

    The average London property price was £35,348. Breakfast TV starts in UK with the BBC Breakfast Time and TV-am; pound notes are taken out of circulation; The Apple Macintosh and CD Players go on sale for the first time.

    The average house price was £106,406. Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Golden Jubilee; Microsoft launched the Xbox-Live; I'm a celebrity get me out of here debuted on ITV; Rio Ferdinand became the most expensive player in English football when he moved from Leeds United to Manchester United for £29.1m; Emma Raducanu was born.

    The average London property price is £295,694. Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal; Prince William officially opened the new Wembley Stadium; Gordon Brown replaced Tony Blair as leader of the Labour party and Prime Minister; the smoking ban comes into force; Fabio Capello is appointed England Football manager; the last Harry Potter novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is published.
